Chair Yoga
Who benefits from chair yoga?
Chair yoga is for anyone looking for a gentle, supportive way to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and mobility. It's especially beneficial for older adults, beginners, people recovering from illness or injury, individuals with limited mobility, and anyone who prefers practicing without getting up and down from the floor. At Twisted Sister Yoga, our chair yoga classes provide a welcoming, encouraging environment where everyone can move at their own pace while building confidence and improving overall wellness.
Is chair yoga good for seniors?
Absolutely. Chair yoga is one of the safest and most effective ways for seniors to stay active. Regular practice can improve balance, flexibility, circulation, posture, joint mobility, and muscle strength while reducing stiffness and the fear of falling. Every class at Twisted Sister Yoga is designed to help seniors feel stronger, more confident, and more independent in everyday life.
Can chair yoga help improve balance?
Yes. Better balance begins with stronger muscles and improved body awareness. Chair yoga includes gentle movements that strengthen your core, legs, hips, and ankles while safely challenging balance. Many students notice increased confidence with walking, climbing stairs, and daily activities after practicing consistently.
Is chair yoga safe after surgery?
In many cases, yes, but always receive approval from your physician or physical therapist before returning to exercise. Chair yoga provides a gentle way to regain mobility and strength after recovery. At Twisted Sister Yoga, movements can be modified to meet your specific needs so you can practice safely.
Can beginners do chair yoga?
Definitely. Chair yoga is one of the best ways to begin a yoga practice. No previous experience or flexibility is required. I'll guide you through every movement and offer modifications so you feel comfortable from your very first class.
Can chair yoga help arthritis?
Many people with arthritis find chair yoga helpful for reducing stiffness, improving joint mobility, increasing circulation, and easing discomfort. Gentle movement helps lubricate the joints while strengthening the muscles that support them. Always move within a pain-free range and consult your healthcare provider if you have concerns.
Does Medicare cover chair yoga?
Original Medicare generally does not cover yoga classes. However, some Medicare Advantage plans and wellness benefits may offer fitness programs that include yoga or reimburse eligible classes. Check with your insurance provider to learn about your specific benefits.
How long are chair yoga classes?
Most chair yoga classes at Twisted Sister Yoga last between 45 and 60 minutes, allowing plenty of time for stretching, strengthening, breathing exercises, relaxation, and Scripture meditation.
Can I book chair yoga for a senior community?
Yes! I love bringing chair yoga to senior living communities, churches, community centers, assisted living facilities, libraries, and wellness groups throughout Monmouth County and the Jersey Shore. Classes can be customized for your group's abilities and goals.
Do you offer private chair yoga?
